biography
SARA MANGRUM, soprano, is a solo and chamber artist, educator, voice, piano, acting, and theatre teacher in the Tampa Bay Area. As a soloist, Sara has performed in musical theatre and opera productions, concerts, recitals, and masterclasses in Florida, Italy, and Mexico.
Sara's most recent pursuits include performing as a featured soloist in The Odyssey in St. Petersburg, FL, for Central Florida Sounds of Freedom in their concert "If Only in My Dreams", Spanish Lyric Theatre as Missy in The Marvelous Wonderettes, understudy of Susana in La Verbena de la Paloma, Antonia in Man of La Mancha, St. Petersburg Opera as "the cousin" in Madama Butterfly, in SPO's chorus for various productions, and as a soloist in their Broadway Cabaret and Seasonal Sparkle events. She performed with the Opera Tampa Chorus in 2018, 2020, and 2023 for the Andrea Bocceli Concert at Amalie Arena. In 2018 Sara performed and studied abroad in the Opera Lucca Summer Festival in Lucca, Italy, and toured with Opera Maya in 2016 across the Yucatán, Mexico on a televised opera tour performing solo, duet, trio, and opera chorus scenes. She has performed the national anthem at a Florida legislature ceremony in Tampa and for an audience of 18,000 at Amalie Arena for the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Sara has performed with St. Petersburg Opera, Opera Tampa, University of South Florida Chamber Singers, The Florida Orchestra, and Master Chorale of Tampa Bay in performances such as Handel's Messiah, The Game of Thrones Live Tour, and Distant Worlds: Final Fantasy. She performed in many scenes, programs, and recitals while studying at USF, and has participated in numerous music festivals such as NATS.
In addition, Sara directed music and musical theatre programs as well as teaching voice and piano at Florida Academy of Performing Arts in Brandon, FL, and School of Rock in Tampa, FL. She has directed The Little Mermaid Jr., Legally Blonde Jr., Annie Jr., and Willy Wonka Kids. She has been an adjudicator for The Florida Thespian Society District Festivals for 3 years. She has taught at public, private, and Montessori schools and in "Music with Sara" infant and toddler classes at Munchkin Town in Largo, FL. Sara currently teaches voice, piano, theatre, and intro to music lessons from her home studio.
Sara was classically trained in voice from the age of 6, theatre from the age of 9, and piano from the age of 10 at Marcia P. Hoffman School of the Arts in Clearwater, FL. She studied at Lucca Italian School in Lucca, Italy the summer of 2018. Sara graduated with multiple scholarships from the University of South Florida in Spring 2017, with a Bachelor of Arts in Music. She studied under the guidance of Dr. Kyoung Cho, Dr. Robyn Rocklein, and Jason Stearns.
